Please check with your primary care physician.
Guests should arrive at the location 10-15 minutes before the ride is scheduled to depart.
GENERAL Riding boots are ideal. For horseback riding, you at least need a heel strap (no flip-flops or clogs)– sneakers are fine. We also recommend long pants. We do provide helmets, which are required for anyone under the age of 18 and optional for anyone above the age of 18. We highly recommend wearing a helmet. Brimmed hats need a chin tie to be worn on the trail, to ensure it won’t blow off and startle a horse.  It’s a good idea to have an extra layer available in the car with you in case weather is cooler than expected, but whatever you choose to wear when you get on your horse needs to stay on until you get off. Please plan to leave extra packs behind. A cell phone is fine to bring if you have a secure pocket for it. We do have a limited number of saddlebags if one member of the group wanted to bring a quart-size water bottle, cellphone, and/or car keys. Also, for extra safety while riding, no straps (as for cameras and binoculars) around your neck or shoulders, please. SUMMER We recommend that you wear sturdy, closed toed shoes enclosed to the ankle and long pants are best for riding. Please note that sandals of any kind are not permitted. Mosquito repellent and sunscreen is highly recommended. WINTER We recommend that everyone dresses warm with mitts, hats and boots. You are outside in the cold so be sure to have multiple layers and a winter jacket.
Please park on the north side of the barn and walk round the barn to the southside. There you will see a deck with a green door to the tack room.  If no one is around when you first arrive someone will be with you shortly, probably coming back from another ride. The farm can get very busy with rides scheduled back to back so we greatly appreciate your patient. You’re welcome to wait in your vehicle or on the deck until it is time for your ride to depart. Enjoy the beautiful mountain valley setting and fresh air.
We’re usually happy to take you out on a ride in a light rain, though in the case of a thunderstorm we would need to reschedule. We stop riding up the hill when above 95 degrees in the summer, and stop running rides if it gets below 5-10 degrees. If conditions are unsuitable and we need to reschedule, we would call you (and e-mail if you reserved through the online booking system) as soon as we could make that determination. If you’re wondering about iffy upcoming weather, feel free to reach out – weather systems can travel a bit differently in our little valley, and we can give you our best assessment. If you need to reschedule, please check the advance forecast and provide 48 hours’ notice. Thank you!
No, it’s more of a relaxing conversation we engage in. We encourage our guests to ask as many questions as they’d like, or just sit back and enjoy the ride! Cameras are allowed so take as many pictures as you like. Make note that if you do not feel comfortable taking pictures or bringing your phone on the ride your trail guide can take pictures and send them to you after the ride. We also encourage any pictures posted on social media that you tag us in!

No, we have restrooms in the tack room where we meet. We recommend using the restroom beforehand.

Yes, all of our rides are private. Who you come with is who you ride with. Whether it’s just you or a group of friends/family, our private rides make our farm very unique from a lot of other trail riding facilities.

Yes, we offer gift certificates in any amount, which you are welcome to pick up here, or we can email one.

  • If we are going to advertise that clients can pick them up at the farm we need to set it up so I have gift cards. Also I have no clue how to activate them. We may be better off just saying to order them online.
  • Also this question is listed twice on the website.

Skeet Shooting Frequently Asked Questions

Skeet shooting is a recreational and competitive activity where participants use shotguns to attempt to break clay targets which two fixed stations mechanically fling into the air at high speed and at a variety of angles.

There is no minimum age for shooting skeet. The decision depends on ability level. Maturity and size should play a big factor when deciding if your child is ready to handle a shotgun and follow the gun safety guidelines. It’s very important to have an expert accompany and teach your child the vital rules and regulations when beginning so proper habits and respect for the gun are formed right away.

So the final decision will be up to the discretion of the Range Safety Officer or Instructor.

Note: Lessons are required if the child never used a shotgun and/or is shooting with an adult who is also inexperienced.

No. For safety reasons, only individuals that are shooting are permitted to enter the skeet range.
A shotgun is the most common gun that shooters choose for this activity. There are many varieties of shotguns, so it’s important to consider your ultimate goal and go with that. Another factor that must be taken into consideration is the size of the gun. What might be the right size for your buddy may not be right for you. Of course, make sure you accompany your gun with the proper safety items such as eye and ear protection as well. Mountain Valley Farm offers include shotgun, ammunition and gear – all included in the price.

No. Our courses are designed by skill level. Even if you’ve never held a gun, our instructors will have you breaking targets in no time!  If you have never shot a firearm, we highly recommend scheduling a lesson.

We encourage everyone to book in advance. One of our team members will help you pick the best time to arrive based on course selection and size of your group. Those who call ahead are given priority over those who walk-in. Walk-in’s can not be guaranteed a time slot to shoot skeet due to limited instructors and availability.

Please call as far in advance as possible, up to 3 months in advance. For groups of 12 or more, please contact us in advance.

Yes, we offer lessons for all levels and abilities from first timers to advanced shooters. Our experienced instructors will provide personalized guidance and teach you the fundamentals of shooting in a safe and controlled environment.
