Mountain Valley Farm is located in the heart of the beautiful Dutchess County. This farm offers a range of services to cater to the needs of horse enthusiasts of all levels. Two of the our popular services offered by Mountain Valley Farm are Private Round Pen Lessons and Kids Round Pen Lessons.

Private Round Pen Lessons are an excellent way to improve your horsemanship skills. The round pen is a safe, enclosed area where you can work with your horse in a controlled environment. This setting is ideal for riders who want to focus on developing their riding technique, as well as for those who want to build a stronger bond with their horse. Private lessons are tailored to your individual needs, and the instructor will work with you to create a customized plan that meets your goals.

Kids Round Pen Lessons are designed to introduce young riders to the world of horseback riding. The round pen provides a safe and controlled environment for children to learn the basics of horseback riding, including proper posture, balance, and control. The instructors at Mountain Valley Farm are experienced in working with children of all ages and skill levels, and they have a passion for teaching kids about the joys of horseback riding.

Our ROUND PEN LESSONS include (my be subject of change depending on the skill level, wishes and/or arrangement with our trainer)

• Learning about horse behavior and safety: Before you start riding, it’s important to learn about the behavior of horses, how to approach them safely, and how to handle them properly.
• Tacking up: You’ll learn how to put on the necessary equipment, including the saddle, bridle, and any other gear that the horse may need.
• Mounting: You’ll learn how to properly mount the horse and position yourself in the saddle.
• Basic riding skills: You’ll learn how to control the horse’s movements, including stopping, starting, turning, and controlling the horse’s speed.
• Riding in different gaits: You’ll learn how to ride in different gaits, such as walk, trot, and canter.
• Throughout the lessons, you’ll also learn how to care for the horse before and after riding, such as grooming, feeding, and cleaning up.
